A Chat with Dr. Mariana Bozesan: Polymath; AI pioneer; successful Serial Tech-Entrepreneur; Award-winning Investor; President and co-founder of The Bozesan Foundation, now AQAL Foundation; Renowned Author, Integral Investing: From Profit to Prosperity

This week, Stephen Ibaraki has an exclusive interview with Dr. Mariana Bozesan.

Dr. Mariana BozesanDr. Bozesan is a polymath, an AI pioneer, a successful serial tech-entrepreneur the architect of Integral Investing, and an award-winning investor. Her moonshot is the application of exponentially growing technologies to address humanity's existential threats with the intention to decarbonize the global economy and accelerate the implementation of the UN SDGs within Planetary Boundaries. The Prominent Alumna of KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) is a strategic advisor to governments and other governmental organizations (EU, German, Dutch, US State Dept., All China Women Fed., UNCTAD etc.). She is also an empowering keynote speaker (UN, TEDx, Stanford, Oxford, INSEAD), a frequent podcast and TV guest (https://www.arte.tv/de/videos/090614-001-A/projekt-aufklaerung/), and the renowned author of numerous peer-reviewed research papers and books including the report to Club of Rome and the World Academy of Art and Science, titled Integral Investing: From Profit to Prosperity.

She is the recipient of the Golden Angelina Award, as Europe's Female Angel Investor of 2019 conferred by BAND, the German Business Angel Network, and BAE, Business Angels Europe, and of the 2016 Best European Early Stage Investor Award conferred by EBAN, the European Business Angels Network. In January 2024, she became member of the European Women Angels Task Force.

Mariana was conferred Full Membership to the Club of Rome in 2012 and elected a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science in 2019. She was the German National Advisory Board Member for the G8/G20 Social Impact Investment Task Force and serves as a strategic advisor on safe AI, ethical & integral finance and sustainability to various funds, NGOs, social businesses, and several governmental organizations. She is a human rights activist and the co-initiator of the Equality Moonshot in collaboration with UNCTAD.

She is the Architect of Integral Investing, an investment model she developed based on Ken Wilber's Integral Theory and her +30 years successful track record. Her Motto is the Parity between People, Planet, Prosperity - with Passion and Purpose. Early in her career, Dr. Bozesan held executive positions at Oracle Corporation in Redwood Shores, CA and London, UK, at Digital Equipment Corporation (now Hewlett-Packard) in Munich and Paris, and at IntelliCorp GmbH, an artificial intelligence pioneer.

Through her philanthropic activities, she supports numerous organizations and launched in 2010 her Moonshot, the Investment Turnaround where she was joined by various like-minded investors, philanthropists, and family offices, and the co-presidents of the Club of Rome, Prof. Dr. Ernst-Ulrich von Weizsaecker and Prof. Dr. h. c. Anders Wijkman, and reputable members thereof. Moreover, Mariana serves as Board of Director (BoD) & Advisory Board Member to several organizations including Onsight Ventures, Chi Impact Capital, Ethical Markets, and Sustainability Labs. She is co-founder and former BoD member of Conscious Leadership Guild, 4L Capital AG, The International Museum of Women in San Francisco, Riane Eisler's Spiritual Alliance to Stop Intimate Violence (SAIV), and The Halo Impact Fund in Palo Alto, to name a few. Since 1979, Dr. Bozesan has been the President and co-founder of The Bozesan Foundation, now AQAL Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development and application of the Integral Investing framework toward the implementation of the UN SDGs within Planetary Boundaries.

As a scholar, Dr. Bozesan has published numerous peer-reviewed books, chapters, papers, and is the successful author of Integral Investing: From Profit to Prosperity, The Making of a Consciousness Leader in Business, and the Diet for a New Life book series. She has co-authored several books including the 50th year anniversary report to the Club of Rome Come On! Capitalism, Short-termism, Population and the Destruction of the Planet.

Educated at Stanford University and KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), she earned a M.Sc. (Dipl.-Inform.) degree in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science from KIT, of which she is a Prominent Alumna. She is also the recipient of the Sofia Distinguished Alumna Award from Sofia University (formerly ITP), Palo Alto, California, where she earned her Ph.D. in Psychology. Mariana is of half German, half Romanian heritage, was born and raised in Romania, and is at home in the world.
