Podcast/Video Interviews by Stephen Ibaraki A Chat with Adam Chen: Journalist; Entrepreneur; about a philosophical approach to technology using live journalism and documentary theatre to create social impact and change This week, Stephen Ibaraki has an exclusive interview with Adam Chen. Adam Chen is a Toronto-based journalist and entrepreneur who started Talk Media, a non-fiction experimental storytelling event and experience company, back in 2020. The company was founded under the believe that journalists need to create spaces to reconnect and build relationships with audiences, outside of the algorithm-led environments of social media. Currently being incubated at the Transmedia Zone and Social Ventures Zone, the company were participants in the inaugural cohort of the Google News Initiatives Start-Up Boot Camp. Their first event, a first-of-it's-kind online storytelling carnival, was been featured on the CBC, Radio-Canada, and Global News. He also works alongside X University (Formerly Ryerson) School of Journalism Professor Sonya Fatah in the stitched! live journalism lab. Based in the The Creative School Catalyst, stitched! is a research and production lab focused on the development and expansion of live journalism models. Prior to this, Adam founded a small chain of restaurants in Taipei, and worked in community development programs in India, Rwanda, Ecuador, and the US. As a journalist, his 360-video and multimedia documentary project, Hong Kong 360, was awarded with an 2019 Emerge Media Award and 2020 Canadian Online Publishing Award. Adam previously worked at HuffPost Canada, with bylines in BuzzFeed, HuffPost, The Hoser and the Review of Journalism. He’s a graduate of the X University's Master of Journalism program.
