DISCUSSION:

Interview Time Index (MM:SS) and Topic

:00:39: What is the purpose of the International Science and Engineering Fair or ISEF?
"....To promote interest in computers and information technology; in fact, all science among high school students...."

:01:25: Where is ISEF held and who attends?
"....The contestants are winners at local science fairs in their own communities/cities and come from all over the world. The winners at those local fairs are invited to compete at an international fair which is held in different US cities...."

:04:02: Kelly describes the general schedule of the ISEF.
"....The work is very often publication quality. They are high school kids but very often you will see real research that would undoubtedly meet the criteria for being accepted into a paper...."

:07:37: When did the ACM get involved with ISEF?
"....The first time I did it was about ten years ago and we've been involved every year...."

:09:22: Are there some memorable moments that you can share from past ISEFs?
"....Several times the computer entry was the overall winner and at that time they get quite a high profile...."

:10:33:  Why should schools get involved with the ISEF?
"....The job market for computer and information technology is very good....Generally the outlook for the pool of trained people in computers and information technology in the future in the US and Canada looks dangerously low, so using the science fair to promote interest amongst students is a really good thing...."

:14:30: If you were doing this interview on the ISEF, what question would you ask and then what would be your answer?
"....'What mechanisms are there for making sure that teachers and students are aware of the opportunities that come from the ISEF?'...."
