Podcast/Video Interviews by Stephen Ibaraki

Hava Siegelmann, Expert in Complex Systems and Neural Networks; Professor of Computer Science, University of Massachusetts; Director of the BINDS Lab; core faculty member in Neuroscience and Behavior

This week, Stephen Ibaraki has an exclusive interview with Hava Siegelmann.

Hava SiegelmannHava Siegelmann is a professor of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts, director of the BINDS Lab, and a core faculty member in Neuroscience and Behavior. She has been a visiting professor at MIT, Harvard, Weizmann Institute, ETH Zurich, UC Berkeley, and Cambridge University.

Her innovations and Super-Turing theory have led to a novel field of computation and form the basis of a new, significantly more capable AI. Siegelmann recently completed her term at DARPA, where she spearheaded the agency's massive, multi-hundred million dollar effort to design and implement "third-wave AI" systems capable of learning and improving as they gain experience. Her L2M program, one of the world's largest, most advanced and significant AI efforts, pushes the boundaries of computation - establishing the emerging field of Lifelong Learning at the cutting edge of Machine Learning. Her GARD program is developing AI safe against attack. CSL introduces collaborative learning between independent agents, while assuring complete data and model privacy. Siegelmann also founded biomedical programs that rapidly identify chemical and biological threats, improve diabetic treatment and more.

Among other awards she is an International Neural Networks Society's Donald O. Hebb awardee, Obama Brain Initiative awardee, and an IEEE fellow.
