Toshie Takahashi: Professor, School of Culture, Media and Society, Waseda University

This week, Stephen Ibaraki has an exclusive interview with Toshie Takahashi.

Toshie TakahashiToshie Takahashi is Professor in the School of Culture, Media and Society, Waseda University, Tokyo and Faculty Associate at the Harvard Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. She has held visiting appointments at the University of Oxford and the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, the University of Cambridge as well as Columbia University.

She conducts cross-cultural and trans-disciplinary research on the social impact of robots as well as the potential of AI for Good. Her latest book, entitled, "Towards the age of Digital Wisdom" (2016, Shinnyosha, in Japanese) is based on the collaborative project on "Youth and Digital Media" with the University of Oxford and Harvard's Berkman Klein Center won the first prize for the Telecommunication social science award.

Professor Takahashi graduated with a PhD in Media and Communications from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an MA in Sociology from the University of Tokyo and a BSc in Mathematics from Ochanomizu University.

She has been a consultant for industry leaders such as Nissan and NTT group as well as policy makers in Japan. Finally, Takahashi sits on the technology advisory committee of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2020.
